Crafting a Protective Charm

5/12/2011

As mentioned in the previous post Introduction to Charm Bags, these types of charms are incredibly versatile, able to be used as an amulet (repelling unwanted forces) or as a talisman (attracting desired forces.) Their use is simple: just keep them as close to the person they are mean to effect as possible, or leave on your altar (or other primary magickal working place.)
The following instructions are for crafting a basic Protective Charm.

Materials Needed
Black Cloth (about 6" square, no smaller than 4")

Red Thread or Yarn
Red Stone (this can be a Bloodstone, certain types of Agates, etc. or a simple Red Stone that you found outside)
Rosemary (about 1 tsp; fresh or dried is fine, whole needles or powdered doesn't matter)
Salt (about 1 tsp)

Lay the Cloth out flat before you. Focus in your mind how Black protects by absorbing all unwanted forces.

Now, place each item (i.e. Red Stone, Rosemary, and Salt, one at a time,) into the center of the Cloth. As you place each item onto the Cloth, focus on how that item protects you. Gather up the corners of the Cloth and tie the Red Thread around the Cloth so that the items are contained within. As you tie the Thread, focus on how Red protects by burning away the negativity.

Hold the Charm Bag in both hands and again focus on your magickal goal: that this Amulet will keep all unwanted forces and negativity from you, protecting you and keeping you safe.

That's it! You've now made a powerful Protection Charm to for you or a loved one.
