It's no secret that 2010 was a very difficult year for many people. Aside from the obvious economic struggles, many of us also faced varying health problems, the like of which were completely unknown before. The year was one filled with change, to the extreme, completely inline with the numerological association of the year with the number three (2+0+1+0=3.) Three is a number of transformation, of spontaneity, and of fire. I've hopes for this New Year, though there's been nothing happening to suggest that things are going to get any better. Rather, I base this hope on gut feelings, astrological configurations, and pure fancy (what can I say, I'm a witch.) This New Year comes down to a 4 (2+0+1+1=4) and the energy of this number is much easier to handle. It's earthy, the number of the physical elements. It is grounding and stablilzing (both of which are needed after this last year...) Yet it still possesses a creative quality, though far gentler than the erratic, sometimes destructive, creative energy associated with Fire and the number 3. It is a slow growth, one that has the ability to be maintained and also to be beneficial.
With this in mind, celebrations for this coming Imbolc would be well focused on the purification aspect of the holiday. Allow the fires of 2010 one last chance to burn away all that was needless and destructive and enter into this New Year truly pure and able to move on, to grow, and be who, and where, we are meant to be.
