Pixie Smith Scholarship
The witchcraft and Pagan communities are guilty of the same prejudices and biases of our over culture, and so BIPOC and LGBTQIA+ individuals frequently face additional obstacles when it comes to accessibility to resources and support, never mind being underrepresented and not fairly credited for their contributions. This scholarship is an attempt to help counter this discrimination within the witchcraft and Pagan communities and to encourage other leaders to do what they can to help uplift marginalized voices in our communities.
Pamela (Pixie) Coleman Smith is arguably one of the most influential women in occultism. Her work in the Rider Waite Tarot deck has caused this deck to be recognized as the default Tarot deck and has inspired innumerable artists in the creation of new Tarot and oracle decks. Despite her iconic style and artistry, Pixie Smith received little recognition for her work in life and would die not knowing the role she would play in the spiritual practices of so many people. Although there is no definitive evidence as to Pixie Smith’s race or sexual orientation, she was frequently othered by those around her, viewed as non-white, lesbian, and altogether Otherwordly. In choosing to name this scholarship, Pixie Smith was the obvious choice.

Who is Eligible?
Application is open to any and all BIPOC and/or LGBTQIA+ individuals. Must be 18+ to apply.
How it Works?
This is a recurring scholarship. Applications can be submitted at any time. Awardees of the scholarship are not eligible for a second scholarship.
At the Full Moon of every month, one name will be selected from all submitted applications by drawing a name from a hat. Individuals will be notified by email that they have been selected no later than the week before the Dark Moon. They will begin their choice of course by the Dark Moon.
Applicants who were not selected will remain eligible and in the drawing pool until their name is selected or the scholarship ends (i.e., if you apply in October and were not selected, you will be eligible and automatically entered into the drawing for November’s scholarship and every subsequent month until your name is selected).
All submitted information will be kept private. Winners will not be publicly announced in order to respect their privacy. Applicant information will not be sold, rented, or otherwise shared with anyone nor will applicant information be added to any newsletter lists; all submitted information is used exclusively for the purpose of randomly selecting a name and contacting that individual.
