Earlier I mentioned a few wonderful herbs that are great for use during pregnancy, labor, and lactation (Herbal Aids for Pregnancy.) I wanted to follow up with that because having a natural pregnancy is so much more possible than it is being made out to be. Although Natural Medicine has made huge progress towards widespread acceptance, it is still considered "quackery" by many. Despite how you may personally feel about the matter, let me offer a few more natural methods that I've used successfully to relieve some of the common discomforts many women experience during pregnancy.
Winter's are notorious for wreaking havoc on skin and hair what with the combination of cold, dry air outside and the hot, dry air inside. It's time when lips are chapped, hair is brittle, and the skin at your finger tips cracks and splits. While it's easy enough to shrug it off and "patiently" wait for warmer weather it's also just as easy to make a high quality natural moisturizer with items you most likely already have in your kitchen.
Well, it's definitely that time of the year again: Soup Season. It's bitterly cold, the melted snow has left hard Earth and ice and the Wind has returned full force now to dust everything with just enough snow to make it extra slippery. All wonderful reasons to stay in-doors as much as possible right now, and all wonderful reasons to either set a pot to simmer on the back burner or finally whip out that crock pot.
During each of my pregnancies, I come to favor a certain blend of herbs for a daily tea. This blend usually addresses any concerns or issues that I've been having, but, overall, is supportive to the pregnancy, a safe labor, and a healthy, squishy baby. This pregnancy, I've been favoring a blend of highly nutritious herbs with an extra dose of Stinging Nettle to combat that horrendous crawley sensation you get in your legs (known as Restless Leg Syndrome. I thought it was a joke, so the Universe, of course, saw fit to provide me with a 9 month long confirmation that it really does exist.)
