The third and final Harvest Holiday: the Harvest of root vegetables. The veil between the worlds is thin, Spirits and faeries are easily seen. Jack o' Lanterns and offerings of food help to avoid their tricks.
Common Samhain Traditions
These are some common traditions that many use as part of their Samhain celebrations.
- leaving out food for the dead. This can be done in many ways, such as setting an extra place at the Feast table or burying apples in the yard for passing Spirits (who often appear in the guise of a squirrel and run off with the apples!)
- making a Jack o' Lantern. The belief behind it is that the frightful face will keep unwanted and malicious Spirits from entering the home.
- divination. You could scry with Fire, Water, a Dark Mirror, a Crystal Sphere, or consult your trusty Tarot deck. The veil is thin, answers may be more easily had.
- Trick or Treating. Regardless of faith, this is a tradition that has lasted generations: let's keep it going!
