The Moon, as we are all aware, asserts Her influence most heavily upon the water; the ocean levels rise and fall upon the beach at Her command. Interestingly, the earth and the human body have about the same percentage of water volume. Is it any wonder then, as water bodied wonders ourselves, that the Moon should have just as strong an effect on us? During pregnancy, the volume of water in a woman's body increases significantly, what with the amniotic fluid, increased blood volume, greater fat stores, and not to mention the baby. The Moon has long been associated with women. Even up through the 1960's, Western medical doctors would measure the length of pregnancy in terms of 10 lunar months, each month lasting 4 weeks. Even as late as then, the medical world acknowledged the connection between the Lunar cycle and the Female Reproductive cycle. So, it is only natural to expect that during this time, the power of the Moon upon a woman with child would be even greater.
Such affects can be seen in the emotions. Some may say that women often lose control of their emotions throughout pregnancy, but looking at it from a spiritual/metaphysical standpoint, I find that we are actually feeling are emotions more fully. Our society discourages women (though honestly, men, too,) from being overly emotional, from truly experiencing what we are feeling, so what a liberating time pregnancy can be! The Moon takes over, forcing us to deal with very basic aspects of ourselves, confronting our own emotional shadows, allowing us to freely emote, to freely feel. What a wonderful opportunity to gain insights into ourselves and grow as individuals! Another prominent area that the affects of the Moon can be seen is in Dreams. Many people, both female and male, find it incredibly difficult to sleep at the time of the Full Moon, my Piscean husband is one of them. Thus, in this time of the Full Moon, it is only natural for women's dreams to become more vivid, more frequent, and certainly more bizarre. Many believe, due to the shared hormones and strong psychic bond between mother and child, that the woman and her tiny, swimming babe share dreams. I find this entirely plausible, but I must wonder just how much of the dream is shared. I would imagine, that due to living in a warm, dark, muffled cave that babies would dream only of sounds, smells, emotions, and flashes of color. My experiences with this pregnancy lend me no insights at this time. Comments are closed.
